1. What are NAPO and NAPO-NE? NAPO is the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals and NAPO-NE is the local branch chapter. I am an active member of these two fine organizations. Please visit the sites, www.napo.net and www.napo-newengland.com, to learn more about the professional organizing industry.
**************************************************************************************************************** 2. What is the job of a professional organizer? The National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals defines a Professional Organizer as “a person who provides ideas, information, structure, solutions, and systems to increase productivity, reduce stress, save time and energy, and lead to more control over space and activities."
A professional organizer models, teaches and transfers industry standard, innovative and customized organizing skill sets to clients. Professional organizers focus on people, professional cleaners focus on objects.

Children/Students: 1-2 hour sessions per day (age and activity dependent)
Adults: 3 hour minimum sessions per day
**************************************************************************************************************** 6. How does the professional organizing process work?
Children/Students
We start with a 20-minute complimentary phone consultation to discuss your child’s organizational strengths and challenges. We abide by the NAPO Code of Ethics and all of your child’s personal and academic information is kept strictly confidential.
We schedule a 1-2 hour appointment (age and activity dependent) to meet together with your child in your home to identify, discuss, strategize and address student organizational needs.
We schedule additional work sessions as needed to support your child in the development of successful, independent organizing skills.
Residential/Office
We start with a 20-minute complimentary phone consultation to discuss your organizational challenges and goals. We abide by the strictly confidential NAPO Code of Ethics .
We schedule a 3 hour appointment to work together in your home/office. During the first hour we conduct an on-site needs assessment of what’s working and what’s not working for you. We make a detailed plan of action and set to work! In order to insure uninterrupted work time, it is highly recommended that child care arrangements are made and that media devices are muted prior to our arrival for the home office and/or residential organizing sessions.
We schedule additional 3-hour work sessions as needed to complete tasks and accomplish your organizational goals.
Maintenance plans (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, annually) are also available per client request. Organizing is not “one and done” and backsliding (when progress towards a goal has been reversed) is common, sometimes unavoidable and definitely recoverable. Backsliding is addressed with professional organizer hands-on support as clients learn to independently and consistently use their new organizing habits and skill sets.
**************************************************************************************************************** 7. How long does it take to get and stay organized?
Children/Students Every child is unique and unrepeatable! Individualized needs assessments and student/parent/teacher observations and discussions determine the length of time it takes for a child to get and stay organized.
Residential/Office Every client and residential/office organizational challenge is different. There are many factors that determine the amount of time it takes to get organized including the size of the job, the level of clutter and disorganization, your identified goals and intended outcomes, your stamina and motivation as well as your decision making and attending to task abilities.

Should I clean up prior to your arrival? No, please don’t clean up at all so that together we will be able to assess your organizing strengths and challenges. An important part of your professional organizer's job is to help you to strengthen your successful organizing systems and to address your organizing challenges by developing new, customized organizing systems with you that you will be able to use independently and consistently!
Should I purchase supplies and storage containers? Clients often wonder if storage containers, boxes, etc. should be purchased prior to working with a professional organizer. No, it’s best to wait until after we do the needs assessment together to determine what is needed rather than to introduce additional items to your home/office that you may or may not have already or need.
Should I secure and store private items prior to your arrival? Yes, clients are asked to put away and secure any “private” items and any firearms.
Energize and Organize helps people and businesses get organized!
